FRANKIE HERR WINS AT SSP ON SUNDAY NIGHT

 

Newberrytown , PA ( August 21, 2005 )  -   Carlisle ’s Frankie Herr became the seventh different super sportsman winner in Sunday’s Trail Motors Super Sportsman feature at Susquehanna Speedway Park .  No driver has repeated super sportsman wins at the track this season.

 

In other feature activity, Brian Hauenstein scored a win in the 15-lap street stock feature.  Bill Brown Sr. won the Classic Car feature.  Roy A. Denike won the Road Warriors Flag Pole Race and Jared Beck captured the One-on-One Street Drags.

 

Herr, who drives a family-owned No. 99, passed Pat Cannon in turn 4 on lap 16 for the win.  Scott Dellinger led the first nine circuits before relinquishing to lead to Cannon on lap 10.  Cannon settled for second followed by Bob Fannasy, Dellinger and Richie Hartman.

 

Paul Troutman, Jason Fry, Paul Miller, Joey Biasi and David Socks completed the top 10.  Heats for the 27 cars went to Fry, Fannasy and Scott Ausherman.  Steve Wilbur won the consolation.

 

Brian Hauenstein led the final 10 laps of the 15-circuit street stock main.  He defeated Kevin Sigler, Wes Alleman,  Brian Henise and George Eash.  Heats went to Hauenstein, Sigler and Kirby Sites.  Sam Leonard won the consolation.

 

Bill Brown Sr. was victorious in the 15-lap vintage car main over Joe Crocker,  Fred Cullum, Jamie Lloyd and Kurt Welsh.

 

The Sprint Cars return to SSP on Thursday night, August 25 with the Great American School Bus Championship. Also racing are the Sprint Cars, Xtreme Stock Cars, XSC Rookie Rumble, Women on Wheels Stocks and a Mini Van Red Rover Race.  If needed, a rain date will be announced for this event.

 

Gates open in the pit area and grandstands at 5:00 p.m.   Warm-ups begin at 7:00 p.m. with racing beginning promptly at 7:30 p.m.   Grandstand ticket prices are Adults (18 & older) $12.00; Teens (13-17) $8.00; Children (6-12) $4.00; and Children (5 & under) are free.  SSP will continue its Repeat Fan Discount in which there will be a $2.00 discount for each person on August 25 with a ticket stub from the August 18 or August 21 events only.  Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during the season for great prizes.  Last season, the grand prize was two tickets for the October NASCAR race at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte , North Carolina .  Pit pass prices are $20.00 with a reduced price of $18.00 for all track licensee holders.

 

The Super Sportsman at SSP culminates with the Inaugural 75-lap Trail Motors Championship on Sunday, September 4, paying $2,500 to the winner.  For the championship race, there will be 12 automatic qualifiers for the event determined by the winners of the following events: 1) Silver Spring (Sat., May 28 ? Craig Morrow); 2) SSP (Sun., May 29 ? Russ Mitten); 3) SSP (Sun., June 5 ? Dave Calaman); 4) Port Royal (Wed., June 15  - Pat Cannon); 5) SSP (Sun., June 19 ? Rich Eichelberger); 6) Williams Grove (Fri., June 24 ? Danny Hager); 7) Silver Spring (Sat., July 2 ? Billy Schoffstall ); 8) SSP (Sun., July 3 ? Frankie Herr); 9) Lincoln (Wed., July 20 ⢀? Carmen Perigo Jr.); 10) SSP (Sun., July 24 ? Gregg Foster); 11) SSP (Sun., Aug. 14 ? Aaron Eichelberger); 12) SSP (Sun., Aug. 21 ⢀? Bob Fannasy).  The remainder of the field for the championship will qualify through heats and a last chance race.  All Trail Motors Super Sportsman Series events at SSP will require the use of Hoosier Tires on all four corners with a Hoosier 105/18-15 plated (HTMA or HTE) right rear spec tire.

SSP News and Notes:

- The final event for the Sprint Cars at SSP in 2005 will be Thursday night, September 1 with the 5th Annual York County Nationals.  Also racing will be the Xtreme Stock Cars, XSC Rookie Rumble and Legends Cars.  The 32-lap York County Nationals will pay $3,200-to-win.  The King of the Posse Match Races will determine the starting lineup for the feature event.  The top five in points as of August 30 square off in one-on-one 2 lap races along with the three heat race winners in a single elimination 8 driver tournament.  The winner of the tournament will be awarded the pole position for the York County Nationals along with $500 in prize monies.  The King of the Posse tournament will determine the top 8 positions for the feature and the remainder of the field will line up “heads up” based off of heat and consolation finishes.  Twenty-four cars will take the green for the York County Nationals.  Heat race lineups will be determined by a blind draw.  If needed, the rain date will be Sunday, September 11, for this event.
